Incorporating green marketing strategies into your business will lighten your company’s carbon footprint while also showing your customers that you take your green commitments seriously. What’s great about integrating some eco-friendly changes into your marketing efforts is that you don’t have to make any major sweeping changes. There are a lot of simple changes you can make that are eco-friendly and will pack a big green punch.

  1. Go Public with Your Green Goals and Achievements. Lay it all out there and let your customers know why you want to go green, what you plan to do to go green and how successful you are in going green. Making your green goals and values common knowledge will help you stay on track, give your company a degree of transparency and maybe even inspire others to follow your lead. Keep your customers up-to-date with regular blog posts, electronic newsletters and social media updates.
  2. Market Your Brand with Eco Swag. A customized reusable product puts your marketing message repeatedly in front of your customers in a highly visible manner. Reusable products eliminate the need for single-use items, so reusable shopping bags and custom branded water bottles help your customer’s make green decisions and get your branding statement out there. Choose an item made from recycled or sustainable materials to ensure the item lives up to your company’s green goals, while also letting your customer’s know that you are serious about going green.
  3. Partner with a Cause. There are so many eco organizations that need help and the support of your business. Partnering with one of them to raise awareness will benefit them and the community, country  or world while also showing that your brand cares and will do what is needed to make the planet a better place.
  4. Use Eco Paper and Inks for All Printed Materials. From catalogs, to business cards, brochures and mailings there is a need for printed marketing pieces. When you need to print something make sure you use FSC-Certified paper, which is made from trees grown in a responsibly managed forest, or 100 percent post-consumer waste (PCW) paper. Also make sure low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) inks are used. When your marketing pieces are being designed make sure to include the proper logos and notations indicating eco paper and inks were used.
  5. Use Eco Labels and Endorsements. Include eco labels on your products and packaging when applicable like the chasing-arrows recycling logo, the Energy Star logo or the USDA’s Certified Organic emblem. These logos are clear indications about the green status of your products and the quality of the materials used. Include endorsements or awards from environmental organizations to help give your eco efforts some credibility. Beware of green washing, which is the practice of utilizing eco marketing for the sake of marketing without an emphasis on the environmental aspects. Customers will see through green washing, and the damage this can cause is almost irreparable.
